Self-advocates tell us what freedom means to them

What does freedom mean to you?

In celebration of #MyFreedomDay on the 14th March 2017, Lumos-supported self-advocates wrote poems, created videos and told us what freedom means to them.

Freedom means different things to different people, but we all share one common goal, the right to make our own decisions and take control of our own destiny. See below a poem created by Lumos-supported self-advocates in Bulgaria where they tell us what freedom means to them.

"Freedom to me is when you can take a deep breath, and see that the sun is shining. To smile wildly to the world and feel how your heart is beating."

The team in the Czech Republic share what freedom means to them:

"I can wear what I want, I can go out, I can go out with my family, I can go out, I can go to school, because some children cannot"

We asked Alina from Moldova what freedom means to her, she said:

"Freedom means to me, when I speak my mind, when I am myself and I do what I want. Freedom is when I have the right to a family. And when my family are beside me."
