Impact Report 2019

Impact Report 2019

The drive to help vulnerable children and return or place them in loving families sits right at the heart of the Lumos mission, and last year the efforts of our dedicated supporters and staff fulfilling this mission gave us much to celebrate.

In 2019, our advocacy work continued to persuade policy makers that there is a better, more cost-effective solution to institutional care. We also helped the Jordanian government launch a pioneering 10-year national deinstitutionalisation strategy for people with disabilities – the first of its kind in the Middle East.

We were delighted to launch our first online training course, marking an exciting new phase in our efforts to help others to safely undertake care reform. We secured a major partnership in Haiti, which will help protect more children from trafficking and exploitation. And we began work with partners to strengthen foster care and services to prevent family separation in Colombia.

Together with our partners, we’re building an unstoppable movement for change.

And thanks to our supporters, we will keep fighting for a world without orphanages and institutions. Because every child has the right to grow up and thrive in a safe and caring family.

Discover more about the positive impact our work has had on children and families around the world in our 2019 Impact Report.

Thanks to our partnership work in refugee camps in Ethiopia, we helped place 274 Eritrean unaccompanied or separated refugee children with foster families.

During 2018-2019, we helped to train over 300 social workers in Greece who undertake the assessment of vulnerable children and families.
