Private philanthropy plays a central role in developing societies around the world. In the United States alone, private giving to charitable causes reached US $410 billion in 2017. The resources and expertise in the philanthropic sector are playing an increasingly prominent role in promoting international development, human rights and social justice.

In this report, Trusts and foundations for families: investing in transforming care, Lumos explores the role that private trusts and foundations can play to further support care reform around the world.

Both larger and smaller private trusts and foundations have the opportunity to advance the lives of children. 

We provide recommendations how they can build and strengthen the systems needed to develop children’s potential by redirecting resources and pursuing alternatives that prioritise families and community support.
