Lumos Foundation Secures Extended Funding from Fondation Dora to Strengthen Support for Vulnerable Children in Moldova
27.05.2025
Lumos Foundation is delighted to announce that Fondation Dora has extended its financial commitment to its early childhood intervention programs, doubling the original investment to €300,000 over six years.
Fondation Dora, a charitable foundation based in Switzerland that helps children and teenagers with special needs, has committed to extending the current three-year partnership for an additional three years, now running from April 2022 until March 2028. This extended agreement provides €50,000 annually, bringing the total contribution to €300,000 in support of Lumos Moldova’s critical work with vulnerable children and families.
“This continued partnership with Fondation Dora represents a significant opportunity to build on the successful early childhood intervention model we’ve developed together,” said Marcel Straton, Director of Lumos Moldova.
The additional funding will allow us to strengthen the early childhood intervention system across Moldova and provide vital support to parents and caregivers of children with disabilities and developmental challenges.
The renewed funding will support Lumos Moldova’s , which focuses on:
- Strengthening Moldova’s early childhood intervention system through technical guidance, professional development, and establishing a national resource hub
- Empowering parents and caregivers through expanded support groups and peer networks
- Improving developmental outcomes for vulnerable children and preventing family separation
Since beginning operations in Moldova in 2006, Lumos has contributed to a 95% reduction in the number of children living in institutions and helped prevent approximately 3,700 children from being separated from their families. With Fondation Dora’s initial support, Lumos established a pioneering Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) Centre in Florești district, where 80% of children receiving services have shown positive developmental progress.
The extended partnership aims to support Moldova’s National Action Plan on ECI services (2023-2027), which targets 70% national coverage by establishing 24 new ECI centres by 2027.
