Why Lumos?
When I first learned about Lumos' cause, I was shocked. I feel that when people hear the term 'orphanage' there is no part of them that questions the legitimacy of whether the children residing there truly are orphans.
So when I found out that millions of these children are not, I felt compelled to do something about it. Family life is so important, especially for young children, and if I could have any part in getting these kids back home where they belong, it'd take a powerful force to try and stop me.
What I Did
I am a professional livestreamer on a website called Twitch, and every year we do a charity stream to benefit a worthy cause. This year Lumos was the obvious choice, and my community and I put on a 12-hour charity stream marathon playing video games with different prizes at every mile mark. My audience LOVED it! We had giveaways, challenges - I even got a tattoo at the end when we hit our goal! It was exceptionally successful, and I'm so proud of my community for coming together and doing such a beautiful thing for a worthy cause.
Amount raised: $11,184.41
Our initial goal was $10,000, which would've been the most we'd ever raised before in one go, so going above and beyond that goal blew me out of the water! It's something I am immensely proud of and am so glad it was for a worthy cause.
